Boxer Adrian Roach’s second overseas professional fight scheduled for Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday night, was called off late after his opponent withdrew.

Roach was meant to trade leather with Devin Carter in a four-round welterweight bout, but in an Instagram update provided hours before the scheduled contest on Saturday, the Bermudian announced that the American had withdrawn from the bout.

“I’m upset to announce that my fight today has been cancelled,” Roach said.

“My opponent pulled out of the fight right before weigh-ins and didn’t leave us any time to find a new one.”

Roach, who was looking to make it 3-0 in his blossoming career, had no kind words for Carter for his eleventh-hour decision.

“There’s no excuse for such poor sportsmanship but it’s a part of this game,” the Bermudian said.

“I apologise to all that were looking forward to seeing me fight and thank you all for your continued support. Stay tuned for what’s next, my team and I will be reaching out to all sponsors and ticket-holders.”

Roach had spent more than a week in North Carolina preparing for the bout and trained with fellow Bermudian, Saundre “Dash” Simmons, in readiness for the battle.

The 23-year-old, who made his pro debut at home in July last year, has recorded victories over Brent Coxworthy, from Canada, and Mexican Victor Emanuel Lopez.
