$2m boost for Sandys 360–

Going down: The Government grant to the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo has been cut by 27 percent.

Sandys 360 received a –$2 million boost in the 2012/13 Budget.The announcement that the charity would receive the capital grant was made in the House of Assembly by Premier Paula Cox.Sandys 360 reflects important community values and the grant would help to defray the cost of works currently being undertaken, said Ms Cox as she read the Budget Statement yesterday.Funding for the child day care allowance was also increased from $4.1 million to $4.8 million for the coming fiscal year.However other organisations were less fortunate. The Bermuda Arts Council saw its grant cut from $100,000 to $75,000.A spokeswoman was unable to comment on the reduction.Grants and contributions to science education at the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo and the Bio Diversity Project also received cuts of $40,000 (around 27 percent) and $10,000 (ten percent) respectively.Social assistance also saw a small cut, with its grant slipping from $30.724 million to $30.275 million; the SPCA’s grant fell from $12,000 to $10,000.
