There was no shortage of customers on line at lunchtime in KFC yesterday. On a Friday afternoon the line at some points was nearly out the door. Most of the people who spoke with The Royal Gazette said they didn't know anything about the boycott.Apart from one customer who said she strongly supports the Bermuda Industrial Union, most said they could not care less.Dae Smith, 28, of Devonshire, said: “Really I don't feel any way about it, this is the only KFC in Bermuda, we don't have it anywhere else on this Island.“I don't know why they would want us to boycott it, even if I did I could care less either way.”When told the reason for the call by the union for residents to boycott KFC, Mr Smith smiled while eating his last piece of chicken at a window seat and said: “I just want my KFC chicken.”Dellamae Swan, of Sandys, stressed that she was on line waiting to pick up lunch for her colleagues.“I decided when I heard the call for a boycott that's it for me, but I did offer to pick up lunch for my colleagues and that's why I'm here, you won't see me here again.“I feel everybody needs the union, especially today, that's my opinion and I'm strongly behind the union.”Another passer-by outside the fast food establishment said it made no difference to him.Mark Anderson, 25, of Southampton, said: “I don't care for their food anyway, I haven't been in KFC for at least three years.“I don't know the reason for the boycott so I can't really say how I feel about it, I just know I don't eat KFC anyway.”St David's resident Diego McCallan, 21, said: “When it comes to fast food, to me KFC is number one, it's much better than Mr Chicken, at least it is to me.“I'm still vexed that they shut down McDonald's and I live in St David's too, so it was real close to home and I'm still not happy about that. I like KFC and I still want them to bring McDonald's back.”Lukeno Wilson, 21, of Hamilton Parish, said: “I didn't know about the boycott but I wouldn't recommend it for whatever reason. Even if KFC has cancelled the union agreement it makes no difference to me.“I'm going to eat at KFC anyway, the boycott doesn't matter to me.”* If you want to vote on whether you support the BIU call, go to www.royalgazette.com and look for our poll at the bottom of the home page.

KFC boycott: Online readers respond

Here's some of the comments posted on our website, www.royalgazette.com, regarding the boycott yesterday:l But if the boycott is successful it will only lead to more people needing to be terminated.l Think I might go down and get a barrel today. Finger lickin' good!l The Colonel = 1 BIU = 0l Where to go on Sunday after church?l I heard Brother Chris ordered a six-month supply of buckets for the picket line before the island wide boycott memo went out! Don't mess wif my Zingers Bye!l I officially call this day, April 13, “Eat at KFC Day!”l The staff at KFC are not stupid ... they want to keep their jobs.l KFC workers need 100k BMWs too.l I say give into the union then rename the place Kentucky Ferral Chicken, offset the increase in labour cost with a lower food cost if you catch my drift — Cock-a-doodle-do.l The funny thing is, I am almost willing to bet today may be one of the busiest days for KFC. Just because most people are fed up with the BIU and Chris Furbert. KFC may want to send ol' Chrissy boy a thank-you letter after this weekend.l Good luck, asking people to boycott KFC — haha. Like asking them to boycott ketchup and mayo — the Bermudian pink sauce. Not gonna happen!* If you want to comment on stories, just go to www.royalgazette.com and sign in. It's that simple.
