House: Opposition to respond on Budget
A long session likely awaits MPs as the 2025-26 Budget goes under the microscope in the House of Assembly today.
The Reply to the Budget is to be delivered by Douglas De Couto, the shadow finance minister, on behalf of the One Bermuda Alliance.
Speakers on the government side will also have an opportunity to respond.
Whether any Bills are debated will depend on how much time remains for other matters
There could be fireworks if one item tabled last week by Michael Weeks, the national security minister, comes up for discussion.
The Explosive Substances Amendment Act 2025 allow for fireworks permits to be issued to trained technicians employed by pyrotechnics companies — but could get carried over if the Budget debate takes the day.
Ministerial statements include the Bermuda Housing Trust financial statements and “current challenges” to be given by Zane DeSilva, the housing minister.
Junior finance minister Wayne Furbert will speak on the 2020 actuarial review of the Public Service Superannuation Fund and Ministers and Members of the Legislature Pension Fund.
Labour minister Jason Hayward will address the House on the Department of Labour Act 2025 and the 2023 annual report of the Registry-General.
Tinée Furbert, the youth minister, will speak on May as Foster Care Month, and Diallo Rabain, the Cabinet Office minister, will give an update on the City of Hamilton Plan 2025.
Jaché Adams, the public works minister, will speak on road safety and infrastructure and Alexa Lightbourne, the home affairs minister, will give statements on the 2025 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum and the bulk electricity generation licensing.
Owen Darrell, the sport minister, is scheduled to speak on summer camp registration.
