Bermudian-based online payment gateway First Atlantic Commerce is expanding into the Dominican Republic.

Access into the Caribbean country is coming through Azul, one of the commercial brands of Servicios Digitales Popular and subsidiary of Grupo Popular.

FAC is a payment gateway that delivers online credit and debit card processing to companies across the Caribbean and Central America. A spokesman for the company said it also provides the first and only payment card industry-validated, point-to-point encryption solution for companies in the Latin American Caribbean region as well as risk mitigation solutions to its merchants, banks and other gateways.

Azul offers merchant and innovative account services for clients that want to accept payments for websites and mobile applications in the Dominican Republic.

Over the years, FAC has seen a rise in the demand for online payment solutions for merchants in the Dominican Republic. The addition of Azul to FAC’s merchant services providers means that FAC now works with banks across 22 jurisdictions in the Caribbean as well as six countries in Central America.

“We are excited to work with Azul and offer our merchants the ability to accept payments in the Dominican Republic,” said Chris Burns, FAC’s chief executive officer. “We had DR on our road map and I’m happy to say that it has come to fruition this year, especially now that the demand is even stronger amid the pandemic and the need for merchants in DR to sell online.”

FAC and AZUL are already live with Pricesmart, the largest operator of membership warehouse clubs in Central America and the Caribbean.
