Belcario Thomas: 'Why I'm growing a moustache'

Promoter and entrepreneur Belcario Thomas got a clean shave for his 'Movember' moustache.

The idea was to remind Bermuda's men their health can't be taken for granted and they need to get serious about prostate cancer check ups.

He said: "My mom passed from cancer several years ago, so growing a moustache is a nice, tangible way to give to the cause."

It's recommended for men of 40 and above to get a yearly exam for the disease.

Mr. Thomas said he's recently started going to the doctor every nine months but it was tough to get into that routine.

"Ego's part of it. We're men, we're machines, we don't react until we feel something happen. Women are more complicated than men and they're probably smarter too."

Growing a moustache in 30 days won't be easy, though: "I'm pretty strange with hair.

"My growth of facial hair is spotty and I can't grow a full moustache. I'm not going to get that lush Magnum PI look."

Mr. Thomas added: "It might affect my relationship with my girlfriend if she won't kiss me with a moustache."
