Speeding motorcyclist given second chance

A senior magistrate showed mercy to a man in Magistrates' Court who admitted a string of traffic offences today.

Kacy Green, 21, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, speeding, driving while disqualified and riding a motorcycle that was unlicensed and uninsured.

The court heard that police were carrying out laser speed checks on Harrington Sound Road in Smith's when they clocked Green riding west at 80km/h — more than double the 35km/h speed limit.

Officers followed Green, who had a pillion passenger, along Harrington Sound Road and on to Knapton Hill, where he turned into a driveway and rode on the wrong side of the road.

Green lost control of his motorcycle when he rode on to a dirt road and he and his passenger fell off the machine.

Both men ran off, but Green turned himself over to the officers a few minutes later.

Police found that the motorcycle was unlicensed and uninsured and that Green had been banned from the roads until January 25 next year.

The incident happened on May 7.

Senior magistrate Juan Wolffe fined Green, from St George's, a total of $3,250, but gave him until October 16 to pay.

He also banned Green from the roads for 18 months, but ordered it to run concurrently with his current road ban.

Mr Wolffe said: “I'm giving you the opportunity, Mr Green — despite your horrendous record — to see if you can right your wrongs and get onto the right path.”
