Homeless man had drug equipment near nursery

A homeless man will be spending Christmas behind bars after admitting to possessing drug equipment during an appearance in Magistrates' Court.

Keith Peniston, 53, pleaded guilty to having a glass bottle on two occassions that had been converted into a pipe.

In both instances, including the latest on Sunday, the bottle was suspected to be used in connection with the controlled drug cocaine.

He denied a further charge of possessing a glass bottle to be used as drug equipment while he was 300 meters from Teeter Tots Nursery on July 4.

Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney offered no evidence on that charge.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced him to six months behind bars for both of the guilty pleas, which will run concurrently.
