Drinking brag to police ends in road ban for man on bike

A St. George’s man who taunted police with an account of his night’s drinking was given a hefty fine in Magistrates’ Court.Roger Lightbourne Jr was spotted by uniformed police on patrol at 2am yesterday outside a gas station on Richmond Road.He was sitting on a motorcycle and appeared to be preparing to drive away.When approached, Lightbourne told police: “You know who I am? I’m 120 percent over the limit. I’ve had Chivas, Courvoisier and everything.”Officers noticed a strong scent of alcohol. Lightbourne’s eyes were glazed and his movements unsteady.He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he refused a breath test.Admitting to care and control of a vehicle while impaired, Lightbourne told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner he had been sitting on the bike to talk to some girls in a jeep.Mr Warner fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.Lightbourne also pleaded guilty to a November 21 charge of driving with no license, for which he was fined $100 and given seven demerit points.
