Pair charged with attempted murder

Two men were charged in Magistrates’ Court yesterday with the attempted murder of 19-year-old Shautorne Princeton Burrows outside Maximart last August.Anwar Muhammad, 22, and Shawn Williams, 19, were both charged with attempted murder and using a firearm to commit an indictable offence.Neither man was required to enter a plea as the charges must be heard by the Supreme Court. Mr Muhammad also pleaded not guilty to separate charges of possessing cannabis in an increased penalty zone in Sandys parish on October 26, and several traffic offences on February 21.On August 23, 2010, Mr Burrows was shot in the left thigh and left index finger on Middle Road, near the junction with Woodlawn Road. He was later flown overseas for treatment of his injuries.Both of the defendants appeared in custody yesterday, with Mr Muhammad wearing a green t-shirt that read “Survival is not mandatory,” and grey jeans, while Mr Williams wore grey sweatpants and a green flannel shirt.Lawyer Kenville Savoury applied for bail for his client, Mr Williams, but Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered both men be remanded in custody.Mr Mohammad is represented by Marc Daniels, while Tawana Tannock acted as Crown counsel. They are expected to return to Magistrates’ Court for mention on April 25.
