Disabled motorist fined $1000 and banned from the roads fo two years

A disabled driver was banned from driving all vehicles for two years after he admitted injuring another motorist by reckless driving.Nelson Pearman, 28, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to Takiyah Russell by driving in a dangerous manner last year.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan said Pearman was driving east on North Shore Road in Devonshire at high speed on October 7 when he lost control of his car and crashed into a wall. The vehicle then swerved into the incoming lane, where Ms Russell was riding a motorcycle. A witness in another car told police she saw Ms Russell thrown into the air by the collision, and had to take evasive action to avoid striking the vehicles. Ms Russell was rushed to hospital, where she remained for three days suffering from fractured ribs and internal bleeding.Pearman, who suffers from a back condition and walks with a cane, suffered a bruised chest and was treated and released by King Edward VII Memorial Hospital that day.His car was extensively damaged in the collision, while Ms Russell’s bike was described as a write-off. After hearing the Crown’s summary of evidence, Pearman told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “It’s all true, your honour.”Mr Warner fined Pearman $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for 24 months.
