Pembroke man fined for using offensive words

A 23-year-old man said “a good night out ended in disaster” when he yelled obscenities at one of Bermuda’s top police officers.Davano Brimmer pleaded guilty to using offensive words to a taxi driver and Acting Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell at the Esso City Gas Station in Hamilton.Magistrates’ Court heard police spotted Brimmer yelling at a taxi driver with clenched fists on the gas station’s forecourt at about 1.40am on Good Friday.Police intervened and told Brimmer to “stop shouting and calm down.”The taxi driver said he needed money for his fare and Brimmer handed over the money saying: “you’re lucky the f******* police are here.”Crown counsel Robert Welling then said Brimmer started to point his finger at the face of the senior police officer.He said “f*** you” before accusing him of “having nice blue eyes” and being a “foreign a******.” He then told him he could “suck the blackest part of his ***” and said he hoped his mama was dead.Brimmer told the court: “I was intoxicated. I was out having a good night and it ended in disaster.“I apologise to the police and the taxi driver and apologise to the court for wasting their time.“I just want to get this matter over and done with so that I can get back to work.”Brimmer of Perimeter Lane, Pembroke, was fined f$1,000 for offensive behaviour.The court heard how Brimmer had been given a conditional discharge for robbery in 2004.
