Trial begins in ‘Yankee’ Rawlins murder case

David Cox is bought to Supreme Court. He is accused of the premeditated murder of Raymond 'Yankee”' Rawlins.

The trial of a man accused of murdering Court Street resident Raymond “Yankee” Rawlins is due to open at Supreme Court today.Mr Rawlins, 47, was shot dead in the entrance to the Spinning Wheel night club on Court Street in the early hours of August 9, 2010.David Cox, 31, of Club Road, Smith’s, denies the premeditated murder of Mr Rawlins. He also denies further charges of using a firearm to commit murder and handling a firearm.A jury of ten women and two men was picked on Monday to hear the case.They’re due to be sworn in today, and the Crown is expected to open the case.Mr Cox is represented by John Perry QC and Craig Attridge while the Crown is represented by Cindy Clarke and Takiyah Burgess.
