Impaired driver banned for leaving the scene of an accident

A 25-year-old man has been banned from driving on the Island’s roads for 12 months after leaving the scene of an accident.Earlston Aaron Edness, of Warwick, admitted driving while over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.Magistrates’ Court heard Edness was driving on South Road in Paget around 2.37am when his green Toyota Yaris collided with a motorcycle on Sunday.He continued driving and parked outside Ice Queen restaurant. The crash was reported to police.Officers approached the defendant at the fast food eatery. He told them he was on the phone reporting the accident.The officers asked why he left the scene and Edness muttered something inaudible. He was asked to get out of the vehicle and appeared unsteady on his feet.He didn’t reply when asked if he had been drinking any alcohol, but a breathalyser test showed he had 121 mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Edness to pay $1,000 or serve three months’ in prison in default. He was also banned from driving all vehicles for a year.
