Broadcasting company charged with breaking reporting restrictions

The Bermuda Broadcasting Company (BBC) has been charged with breaking reporting restrictions, by naming two individuals accused in court of sexual offences.CEO Rick Richardson appeared in Magistrates’ Court on the BBC’s behalf.Advised by lawyer Mark Pettingill, Mr Richardson entered a plea of not guilty to two separate matters.The BBC was charged with identifying a person after they had been charged of sexual offences on November 9 and 10, and in another instance on March 30. In such instances, it is against the law to publicly name the accused unless they have been convicted or entered a guilty plea.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner granted $1,000 bail for each offence. A BBC representative must return to court on June 28.
