Woman was punched after refusing to give man $2
A Sandys man who punched a woman after she refused to give him $2 has been brought before Magistrates’ Court.Denton Parris, 39, of Cochrane Road, admitted assaulting June Hayward on November 8, but insisted to Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that she had provoked him.The court heard that Ms Hayward, who knew Parris, bought a drink at 10am in the Church Street Arnold’s Express. Approached for money by Parris, Ms Hayward was then struck in the right side of the face when she answered him ‘no’.Parris told Mr Tokunbo: “That day we had a little argument in the store. She said something harsh to me. I did slap her, but I had just lost my grandmother.”Ms Hayward, present in court, strongly refuted his account, adding: “He has not apologised to me, and he sent me messages telling me to drop the charges.”Looking at Parris’ record, Mr Tokunbo told him he had a history of violence and did not hesitate to hit a woman, adding: “I’m not persuaded that what you told me was true.”Parris was remanded into custody for sentencing on August 11.
