Pembroke man hit with $800 fine for having cannabis

A Pembroke man who tried to escape from police after being caught with cannabis has been fined after appearing in Magistrates’ Court.Kenneth Franklyn, 41, of Stowe Court, pleaded guilty to possession of the drug.Senior Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that on March 18, just after 10pm, Franklyn was pulled over by police at the junction of Court and Angle Street, during a routine stop and search.Officers noticed a clear plastic bag in his hand as he got off his motorcycle.Franklyn ran west on Angle Street and threw the bag between two parked cars before being apprehended.The bag was subsequently found to contain 2.7 grams of cannabis.Franklyn apologised to the court, and was fined $800 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
