Man attacked mother’s home

A jobless 21-year-old was given a conditional discharge yesterday after he admitted breaking into his mother’s home.Rayshun Edwards, of Warwick, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to wilfully damaging a door and a window in his mother’s apartment in an incident early on Monday morning. The court heard that shortly after midnight, Edwards attended the home of Nemi Edward, his mother, and began shouting: “I want my f***ing s*** back.”When his mother did not open the door, Edwards punched through a glass pane, unlocked the door, and kicked in the door to his mother’s bedroom. After pleading guilty, Edwards said he was frustrated because he had been kicked out of his grandmother’s home because he was unable to pay $750 a month as he was unemployed. On the day in question, he visited his grandmother’s home and noticed his room had been opened and several items of value had been taken. He said his grandmother told him that his brother, who lived with his mother on Union Street, had visited.“I worked hard for my belongings. It’s not right that he just came and took my belongings,” Edwards said. “I didn’t think about it. I was wrong, and I will pay for the damage. I’m not trying to cause damage, I’m not trying to hurt anybody. I just want my belongings back.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner gave Edwards a conditional discharge, ordering him to pay $500 to repair the damage he caused within 90 days.
