Crash driver banned for refusing breath test

A commercial fisherman was banned from the road after repeatedly refusing to submit to a breath test after crashing his vehicle.Kevin Winter, 49, from Pembroke denied a charge of driving while impaired, but admitted refusing the breath test following the October 14 accident.The court heard that at around 7.04pm that day, police received a report of a single-vehicle collision in Fairylands. When they arrived on scene, they discovered Winter with blood on his face.Officers noticed that his eyes appeared glazed and voice was slurred.They took Winter to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and then requested a breath sample, which he refused.He was then taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where he again refused to give a sample of breath.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Winter $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
