Six young men deny gas station brawl charges

Six young men allegedly involved in a late-night brawl that damaged a Hamilton gas station were charged in court.Brian Batson, 19, Rahki Paul, 18, Jahfari Raynor, 18, Sadune Raynor, 17, Akiri Trott, 19, and Umdae Woolridge, 21, denied causing wilful damage to shelves and merchandise at the Tiger market Esso station on Richmond Road.They further denied causing grievous bodily harm to Tulio Escolastica and actual bodily harm to Shannon Ingham in the brawl, which occurred at 2.20am on August 12.Defence lawyer Charles Richardson represented Mr Trott. Kamal Worrell stood in for Marc Daniels, who is representing the Raynor brothers; Mr Baston was represented by Donte Williams. Mr Woolridge and Mr Paul were not represented.Mr Trott is from Smith’s and Mr Woolridge is from St George’s; the remaining defendants reside in Pembroke.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released the men on $3,000 bail with a surety under the conditions that they obey a 10.30pm curfew, avoid contact with the complainants and stay away from the gas station.Mr Woolridge was ordered to report to the St George’s Police Station twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays; the other five were ordered to report to the Hamilton Police Station.The group is expected to return to court for trial on December 15.
