Two men pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to drinking and driving offences that occurred only hours apart.Willis Ming, of St John’s Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to a single charge of driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit. The court heard that at around 5.25pm on December 27, police spotted the 54-year-old riding a motorcycle up Cox’s Hill Road, towing a pillion passenger who was not wearing a helmet.Police stopped Ming and, during a conversation, noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and his breath smelled of alcohol. The legal limit is 80mg.Also appearing in court, Jose Correia of Rockland’s View, Warwick, pleaded guilty of driving while impaired on the same day.An interpreter accompanied Correia to Magistrates’ Court as he only speaks some English. The court heard that at 8.24pm Correia was involved in a car accident on Vermont Road, Smith’s. He sustained injuries to his right arm in the accident.Police questioned Correia at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for his injuries, and noticed that his breath smelled like alcohol. When asked to take a breath test Correia refused saying: “No blow today. Blow tomorrow.”Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined both men $800 and banned them from driving all vehicles for one year.
