Impaired man gave his brother’s name during his arrest
A Warwick man with a string of unpaid traffic fines was caught by police after crashing while nearly three times over the legal limit for alcohol.Wayne Simmons, 22, of Henry Vale, was banned from the roads for a year after admitting to driving impaired on January 1.Simmons was also ordered to pay more than $3,000 in fines.The court heard that at 2.20am, a police mobile patrol found Simmons lying in St Mary’s Road, Southampton, with his feet entangled in a motorcycle.He was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, and later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.A breath test at the police station gave a reading of 234 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.Police also found that Simmons had given his brother’s name and date of birth, and that he had no valid license or third party insurance for the vehicle.They also found that Simmons had not paid an earlier fine of $1,000 for driving without insurance, and had missed court in October, 2010, for having no driver’s license, an unlicensed bike and no third party insurance.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Simmons a total of $2,600 for his latest offences, and given a month to pay.Simmons then picked up further fines of $1,450 for outstanding traffic offences.He was also ordered to pay his outstanding fine of $1,000 immediately.
