‘Annoying person’ was an impaired driver

A Pembroke man was disqualified from driving after police found him attempting to kick start his motorcycle while drunk.Eder Romero-Huanan, 27, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to attempting to drive while impaired.Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said that at around 8.20am on February 19, Police received a report of “an annoying person” in a Pembroke neighbourhood. Officers discovered Romero-Huanan sitting astride a motorcycle wearing a fastened helmet with keys in the ignition.As the officers approached, they said Romero-Huanan attempted to kick start the bike. They noticed that he smelled strongly of alcohol.He was arrested on suspicion of having care and control of a vehicle while impaired, but refused a breath test.After confirming that attempting to drive while impaired is an offence, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Romero-Huanan $1,000 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for one year.
