Two men on sex charges relating to teenaged girl
A 21-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and holding her against her will.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man has been charged with having unlawful carnal knowledge of the same girl.
Neither the accused men nor the alleged victim can be named for legal reasons.
The sexual assault and deprivation of liberty offences are alleged to have been committed in Southampton by the younger man, who is from that parish, on December 30 2011.
The unlawful carnal knowledge offence is said to have been committed in Southampton by the older man, who is from Sandys, the following day.
No details of the alleged crimes were given in court by prosecutor Cindy Clarke.
The men pleaded not guilty.
Ms Clarke said she did not object to the men being bailed if they were ordered not to contact the alleged victim.
She noted that both men were on probation orders at the time of the alleged offence and the older man has previously been incarcerated for a sexual offence. The younger man has a previous conviction for an offence involving dishonesty.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner refused to bail the accused men, commenting: “If you confined a 14 or 15 year old girl against her will and sexually assaulted her, how is she going to feel with you walking around with her?”
He remanded them into custody until their trial on June 1.
