Man jailed after threatening police
A St George’s man who threatened to rip an officer’s head off, has been jailed for a month.Michael Eugene Douglas, 31, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to using offensive words and threatening behaviour.Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said officers went to Dockyard’s Snorkel Park around 1am on Monday after a person refused to leave the premises. The officers found the Narrow Lane resident outside the premises in a drunken state. He left following a warning from the officers. They received a call a short time later from a person complaining that Douglas was pestering tourists for money. The officers returned to Snorkel Park and found Douglas in an agitated state, shouting loudly. When approached by police, he shouted: “F*** you. Don’t touch me or I’ll f*** you up.”They arrested Douglas for using offensive words. He continued to shout obscenities on his way to the police station, telling officers: “Today is Monday. I guarantee by Wednesday I will rip your f***ing head off.”Douglas, who has a long list of previous offences, pleaded guilty in court to both charges but denied asking tourists for money. He insisted he had been working since he was last released from prison. The court heard he was on bail at the time of the incident.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner sentenced him to 30 days’ imprisonment for both offences, ordering them to run concurrently. As he was being taken out of the court by officers, Douglas said: “I realise what this is about. I was hoping I could go to the gallows so you could just hang me.”
