Teenagers deny trying to cheat betting shop out of $25,000

Two Pembroke teenagers yesterday denied using a false betting slip to get $25,000 from a Hamilton betting shop.Koshun Lightbourne and Markus Muhammad, of Alexander Road, attempted to obtain the cash from Seahorses on Queen Street, prosecutor Cindy Clarke said.The pair were accused of trying to pass off the false betting slip as genuine and attempting to obtain the $25,000 by deception.Mr Lightbourne was additionally charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.Neither defendant had legal representation.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Lightbourne, 19, and Mr Muhammad, 18, on $5,000 bail plus one surety.They will appear back in court for mention on September 20.
