February trial for man accused of making advances on a minor
A 28-year-old man in Magistrates’ Court yesterday denied making advances on a 13-year-old girl earlier this year.Prosecutor Susan Mulligan said that the defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was seated next to the girl on a bus on an unknown date between March 1 and 31.The man allegedly told the teenager she looked like she was 21 and asked her to come home with him.The girl replied: “Why? I don’t know you.”Ms Mulligan alleged that the defendant stared at the girl’s private parts and her breasts during the incident forcing the girl to place her bag on her lap and then over her chest to cover herself. The teenager, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, got off the bus at her regular stop and informed her parents. They reported the incident to police at a later date when the complainant pointed the defendant out to them at the Hamilton Bus Depot.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter until February 13 and remanded the defendant in custody.
