Man fined for breaking sandwich board

A Devonshire man was fined $200 in Magistrates’ Court yesterday after he admitted damaging the sign of a Front Street hot spot.Prosecutors said 27-year-old Sherwon Ible deliberately kicked a sign outside The Beach out of anger, but he told the court that the incident was an accident. However he pleaded guilty to causing wilful damage.Crown counsel Maria Sofianos told the court that at 9.48pm, police received a report of a person causing damage at the bar. They were told Ible had been thrown out by security, and on his way off the property, kicked a sign board, causing it to break at the hinge. Ible then allegedly attempted to leave the area, but was stopped by bar security and other members of the public.Questioned by police, Ible told officers: “I kicked the sign. I’m getting locked up for that?”The damage caused to the sign was estimated at $150.Ible failed to answer bail on October 30, and was subsequently arrested. The court heard he has multiple previous convictions, and is currently on probation for having a bladed article.Ible told the court: “I didn’t kick the sign. My pants got caught on it. I pulled my foot and it fell. I have never been in trouble with something small like this. I’m sorry it happened. I never breached my probation.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Ible $200 for causing damage, and ordered that Ible must repay the bar for the damage caused.
