Man fined $300, must pay for repairs after he damaged door in dispute

A Pembroke man who broke a door in his girlfriend’s house was ordered to pay for the damage.Christopher Bell-Rhoda, 22, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to causing wilful damage in an incident on December 16 last year.The court heard that Bell-Rhoda and his girlfriend, Michelle Cannonier, were arguing.While prosecutors told the court Ms Cannonier tried to shut the bedroom door to shield their child from the argument, Bell-Rhoda told officers Ms Cannonier tried to slam the door into his face.Bell-Rhoda then rammed his shoulder into the wooden door, causing damage to the door handle and hinges. The cost to replace the door was estimated at $300.Lawyer Victoria Pearman told the court that the defendant had agreed to pay for the damages, but had been unable to.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered that Bell-Rhoda pay $300 reparations to the complainant via the court immediately and fined the defendant another $300 for the offence.
