Man admits having sex with an underaged girl — will be sentenced in January
A 21-year-old man admitted to having sex with a minor in her home in Magistrates’ Court.Ajani Albuoy-Lovell pleaded guilty to having unlawful carnal knowledge with the girl between April 1 and April 30, on August 7 and between August 8 and August 31.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard the defendant met the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at a place where they were both volunteers.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan said Albuoy-Lovell, who is unemployed and lives in the emergency housing unit in St George’s, became friends with the girl and communicated on BlackBerry Messenger.While they were communicating, the defendant told the victim he thought she was 16. She, however, told him she was aged 14.On the first occasion, the defendant went to the victim’s home while her parents were away.They were watching a movie when he put his hand down her pants.Ms Mulligan told the court Albuoy-Lovell asked the girl if she was a virgin; she said yes and they had protected sex.On the second occasion, the victim worked a half-day and went to her home with the defendant, watched television before having protected sex again.On the third and final occasion, the girl was home alone when the defendant came to the house. They had sex and he fell asleep.When the defendant woke up, he asked the girl for sex again but she declined. They watched TV and then he left.On September 4, the girl told her mother she had sex with the defendant and the matter was reported to police.He was arrested on October 20 and initially denied the allegations before eventually admitting to the allegations put to him.Mr Warner gave the defendant bail in the amount of $10,000 and one surety, along with having no contact with the female involved in the case.Albuoy-Lovell will be sentenced on January 22.
