A woman remanded in connection with a home invasion yesterday admitted a separate offence of receiving a stolen phone.Jasmin Smith, 20, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court for receiving a stolen Blackberry cell phone, valued at $400.The court heard that the phone’s owner, Lisa DePonte, lost the phone on November 11, 2011, but didn’t report it stolen until March 18 this year. She later provided police with her PIN number and other information about the phone. She told officers that she had been told someone had been using her Facebook and BlackBerry messenger under the names of Jasmin Smith and “Juicy Black”.Smith was subsequently arrested, and admitted to police that she had the phone, which was recovered.Appearing in Magistrate’s Court, she denied stealing the phone, but pleaded guilty to receiving the device. The court heard that she is already on remand awaiting sentencing in connection to an aggravated burglary which occurred earlier this year.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned the matter until early next year, remanding her for the offence until then.
