April trial date proposed for three men accused of attempted murder

Four people accused of attempting to murder a 24-year-old man are expected to land in Supreme Court on trial in April.Jahkeil Samuels, 27, Jamin Saltus, 23, and Ronniko Burchall, 22, have denied attempting to murder Aaron Moniz and conspiring to murder a person unknown.The charges were read during the Supreme Court arraignments session yesterday.Alex Vanderpool, 22, appeared with the trio on a related charge of handling a firearm.Mr Saltus is a St David’s resident; the other three are from Pembroke.Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons said that their trial would be given “priority”, and set a mention date for February’s arraignments.According to Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney, an April 29 trial date is proposed. All four are currently in custody.Meanwhile, a trio who have admitted to home invasion charges will be sentenced next week.Raymond Kidd, 20, of Hamilton Parish, has pleaded guilty to assault with intention to rob while using a gun.He has also admitted to serious sexual assault at gunpoint and possessing a firearm in a March 19 home invasion.Olice Morgan, 30, of Pembroke, has confessed to handling a firearm as well as handling stolen goods.Warwick resident Triston Burgess, 19, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, breaking into a home and stealing goods while armed with a weapon, and taking two motorcycles without consent.The three will be sentenced on January 11.US citizen Cedric Oates, 42, will be sentenced on January 25 for making statements he knew to be false, misleading or deceptive, to convince an associate into investing in a real estate scheme.A January 25 sentencing date was also set for 57-year-old childminder Jennifer Franks. She earlier pleaded guilty to endangering the lives of toddler Nasir Burgess along with two other babies left in her care, on September 9, 2011.
