T&T man, resident in the US, arrested with cannabis
A 38-year-old Trinidadian caught with drugs in his underwear at the airport was fined $800 yesterday.
Francis Patterson pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to possessing 6.08 grams of cannabis on February 7.
He was caught with the drugs after he arrived at LF Wade International Airport on a JetBlue flight from New York.
A drug-sniffing dog singled out Patterson’s passenger seat on the flight.
The drugs had an estimated value of $350.
Patterson admitted importing the drugs and took a plastic-wrapped package out of his underwear before he was searched, Crown counsel Takiyah Burgess said.
Patterson, a construction worker who lives in the US, apologised to the court.
“I’m very, very sorry. It will never happen again,” he told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
