Bermudian alleged sex assault victim was told 'make it worthwhile', Australian court hears

Gregory Charles Cox: Denies two counts of sexual intercourse without consent with a Bermudian in Australia.

A District Court jury in Australia heard details unfold on the case of a Bermudian woman who claims she was forced to have sexual intercourse without consent. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was on vacation in Australia when she met her alleged assailant Gregory Charles Cox, then 31, at Bondi's trendy Bucket List bar.According to The Australian newspaper the trial got underway last week. The defendant has denied two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. The case is also being covered by the British media, including the Daily Telegraph.Crown prosecutor Huw Baker said the victim was feeling the effects of alcohol when she “somehow ended up on the beach” alone with the defendant. He is said to have made her perform a sexual act on him at Bondi Beach, Sydney, before boasting he had “a lot of money” and it didn't matter if she reported him to police. The incident allegedly occurred in January last year after the alleged victim had spent a few hours drinking mojito cocktails, glasses of wine and “Jägerbombs”.Mr Baker explained that “her memory about how she got to be there is uncertain,”. But the court heard that she soon “found herself on her knees” with her face in his crotch.“She doesn't recall saying anything but she does recall at that point that she was crying,” he said. She also claimed that she told Cox to “please stop — I don't want this”.It is alleged that he banged her head against a wall and said: “Make it worthwhile, there is nothing you can do about it.”The victim was eventually left crying on the sand, she went to a nearby police station a short time later. The jury also heard that Cox walked into the King's Cross police station about an hour after the incident to hand in the woman's purse, which was left behind on the beach. He reportedly told friends that during the act “all of a sudden she started freaking out”. He also told a friend the woman was “really on my case” and “wouldn't leave my side”.The trial continues.
