Teen locked up because of broken electronic tag

A teen accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on a fellow CedarBridge Academy student has been jailed pending trial.

Tijuan Swan, 16, was initially fitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet after the alleged attack at the senior school.

The Middle Town, Pembroke resident had been charged with the attack alongside three others.

He returned to Magistrates’ Court last week, accused of damaging the $1,000 device on May 22.

Duty counsel Auralee Cassidy said Mr Swan denied cutting the strap and insisted he’d received the ankle bracelet was already damaged when he received it.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him into custody at the Co-ed Facility until trial on August 6.
