Southampton man denies assault

A 22-year-old man was bailed in Magistrates’ Court this morning after he denied unlawfully assaulting a man.

Robert Holdipp Jr, of Southampton, allegedly assaulted Joseph DeSilva in Pembroke on January 16.

Mr Holdipp also denied making a false statement in Pembroke on January 14, but pleaded guilty to using a motor vehicle without insurance on the same date.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Mr Holdipp $1,000 and issued him two demerit points for not having insurance.

Regarding the other matters, Mr Tokunbo released the defendant on $2,000 bail with a like surety on the condition that he have no contact with the complainant and set a trial date for June 5.

Also in court, 25-year-old Leah Lindo, of Paget, was fined $500 after she pleaded guilty to keeping a pit bull-type dog without a licence on August 22 last year.

Prosecutor Larissa Burgess told the court that the dog was seized after animal wardens and police officers attended Lindo’s South Court Avenue residence in Paget upon receiving reports of a prohibited dog being held without a licence.
