Teenager admits perverting course of justice

A Pembroke teenager has admitted perverting the course of justice by giving a false account of a road traffic accident.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Jordan Pitt-Brimmer also pleaded guilty to allowing a person under the age of 16 to use an auxiliary cycle.

The court heard that on December 31 last year, Police attended an accident involving two motorcycles at the junction of Glebe Road and Parsons Road in Pembroke.

First aid was administered to the victim and witnesses informed officers that one of the riders had left the scene prior to their arrival.

While the officers were still at the scene, a car pulled up with Pitt-Brimmer as a passenger.

He informed the officers that he had been the other person involved in the accident.

But he changed his story when the witnesses identified a second young man, who was also in the car that Pitt-Brimmer had arrived in, as the other rider.

Pitt-Brimmer was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where he admitted that he had given a false account of what had happened.

He also admitted allowing a person under the age of 16 to ride his auxiliary cycle.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned sentencing to September 25.

Pitt-Brimmer’s bail was extended.
