Man charged with discharging firearm

A 23-year-old Pembroke man, alleged to have shot himself in the hand last month, faced two firearms charges in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Shayne James was charged with handling a firearm in Pembroke on August 29 and with discharging bullets from a firearm on the same day when the injury was sustained.

Mr James was granted conditional bail of $15,000 with one like surety by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo.

The terms of bail included Mr James having to surrender his travel documents, remain within the jurisdiction and report to Hamilton Police Station three times a week.

The defendant was not required to enter a plea as the charge is indictable and will be heard in Supreme Court.

He is due to stand trial on November 1.
