Man denies stabbing charge in robbery attempt

A 20-year-old man has denied stabbing a man in a robbery attempt.

Lawrence Smith is alleged to have stabbed John Lynch-Wade on December 19 last year in the Lighthouse Road area of Southampton.

Mr Smith is accused of wounding Mr Lynch-Wade with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm, having a knife in a public place and assaulting the alleged victim with intent to rob him of some bracelets.

He faces a further charge of using an imitation firearm to commit the robbery.

At Supreme Court arraignments yesterday Mr Smith pleaded not guilty to all charges relating to the incident.

He also denied taking a motorcyclist without the consent of the owner on December 18 and driving the vehicle dangerously before colliding with a police car.

Mr Smith is expected to stand trial on April 30.
