A 21-year-old man was banned from the roads for 18 months for drink-driving after a hit-and-run crash.

Jahquil Hill, from Paget, pleaded guilty to providing a breath sample above the limit.

Magistrates’ Court heard that Hill was arrested after his car was stopped by police on Crow Lane in the early hours of May 13.

Police were alerted to the vehicle after a hit-and-run crash on Reid Street near Parliament Street a short time before.

The court heard that Hill’s vehicle had “extensive” damage to the front left side.

Police smelt alcohol on his breath. Hill’s eyes were glazed and bloodshot and he slurred his words when he spoke.

The court heard that Hill admitted to officers that he had been drinking.

A later breath test showed 113 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — the legal limit is 80/100.

Hill apologised for his actions in court. He added: “It won’t happen again.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Hill $1,200 in addition to the driving ban.
