A magistrate arrested at the weekend after a car crash has been released on bail, police said last night.

It is understood that Khamisi Tokunbo and another man were taken in custody after a weekend accident on South Road in Paget. A police spokesman said yesterday that the two, both aged 64, “have since been released on police bail pending further inquiries”.

He added: “The incident remains under active investigation and the appeal for witnesses continues.”

The car lost control and plunged down an embankment near the public entrance to Elbow Beach on Saturday night just before 8pm.

The pair were helped out of the car by a passer-by and the other man was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
