The trial of a 58-year-old man accused of a string of sexual offences against an underage girl began in the Supreme Court yesterday.

The Devonshire man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has denied sexually touching the preteen while in a position of trust.

He also denied having unlawful carnal knowledge of the same girl as a teenager.

Nicole Smith, for the Crown, told the jury that all the offences took place between November 2008 and December 2017, at both the defendant’s workplace and the girl’s home.

She said the first of the four charges related to an incident when the girl was under the age of 13, and that the final incident happened when she was between the ages of 14 and 16.

Ms Smith said: “She will tell you what she recalls of these incidents, why she recalls these incidents.

“She will tell you what she felt, what she observed and why she disclosed these incidents in October of 2018.”

Ms Smith added: “The Crown says that, after hearing all the evidence of this case, you will return a verdict of guilty on each count.”
