A 50-year-old man who admitted being impaired when he was involved in a traffic accident was banned from the roads yesterday for 18 months.

Magistrates Court heard that police were called to St Mark’s Road in Smith’s after they were alerted to a single-vehicle collision in the area.

Officers found Edwin Dichoso, 50, who told them that he fell off his motorcycle as he rounded that corner.

Dichoso admitted that he had been previously drinking alcohol.

He told officers: “I accept that I have been drinking.”

Officers took him to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where doctors took a blood sample for analysis.

Tests revealed that Dichoso had 140 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80mg/100ml.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Dichoso, from Smith’s, $1,000 for the offence in addition to his road ban and ordered him to pay by May 18.
