A man was banned from driving all vehicles for 18 months after pleading guilty to refusing to provide a sufficient breath sample to police.

Magistrate Craig Attridge heard that police stopped Pedro Sousa, 44, from Paget, on Crow Lane in Devonshire around 7.40pm on Friday July 1. They stopped him soon after he almost hit a wall with his car.

When questioning him, officers noticed that his eyes were glazed and his breath smelt of alcohol. The court also heard that Sousa was unable to exit his vehicle without assistance.

When taken to Hamilton Police Station, Sousa failed to provide an adequate breathalyser sample after making several attempts.

In addition to being disqualified from driving for 18 months, Mr Attridge ordered that Sousa pay a $1,200 fine.
