A teenager who fled from police on his motorbike causing drivers to swerve out of his way has been banned from the roads and fined.

Aniki Gaiton, 19, of Warwick, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court today to driving dangerously and failing to stop for police.

Prosecutor Yanique Gardener-Brown told the court that on September 25, officers saw Gaiton speeding near the junction of Middle Road and Cobb’s Hill in Warwick.

He overtook a car on Morgan’s Road, making the driver take evasive action then overtook another vehicle.

When police signalled to Gaiton to stop, he sped away making more drivers take evasive action.

Later, different officers noticed Gaiton driving recklessly near Barnes Corner and stopped him. He was taken to the Hamilton Police Station and charged.

Gaiton expressed remorse for his actions and assured magistrate Craig Attridge that he “will not do it again”.

In addition to being banned from the roads for 18 months, Gaiton was fined $1,200.
