Impaired driver loses her licence for 18 months

Magistrates' Court

A woman who drove her car into a wall has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Brittany Macvicar, 32, from Sandys, pleaded guilty to drink-driving when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard that police attended a single-vehicle collision near the junction of Somerset Road and Scaur Lane on November 11 and questioned Macvicar, the driver.

She admitted to drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel but said the accident happened because she was using her mobile phone.

She was taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where a breathalyser test revealed that she had 122 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving is 80mg/100ml.

In addition to being banned, Macvicar was fined $1,200.
