Fine for bike rider who led police on chase

Magistrates' Court

A man who led police on a chase throughout Pembroke has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Troy Weeks, 26, pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police, driving dangerously and riding an unlicensed and uninsured bike when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that in May 2021 officers tried to stop Weeks, who was riding in front of them on Cedar Avenue, because his vehicle did not have an up-to-date registration sticker.

Weeks made several sharp left and right turns and overtook a car while trying to flee from police, but they eventually caught up with him when he turned into his Field View Lane residence.

He admitted that he rode away from the officers because he knew his bike was unlicensed and uninsured.

In addition to being banned, Weeks was fined more than $2,500.
