US citizen charged with bringing $1m of drugs into island

A US citizen was charged yesterday in Magistrates’ Court with bringing more than $1 million worth of drugs into the island.

Christopher McIver, 60, from Arizona, was charged with importing cocaine, cannabis, a substance containing THC and diamorphine — also known as heroin.

He also allegedly had all four drugs with the intent to supply in St George’s.

All offences allegedly occurred on November 9, 2022 and the drugs in question have an estimated value of $1,213,856, prosecutor Carrington Mahoney said.

Since the case must be heard in the Supreme Court, Mr McIver was not required to enter a plea.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson sent the case to the June 1 arraignment session and released Mr McIver on $75,000 bail.

He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents and attend Hamilton Police Station three times a week.
