Drink-driver crossed lanes to ‘avoid bumps in road’, court told

Magistrates' Court

A motorist caught drink-driving told police he was crossing lanes “to avoid bumps in the road”, a court heard yesterday.

Damon Anderson, 51, from Warwick, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that in March, police saw Anderson driving erratically on Horseshoe Road and stopped him.

Anderson admitted to drinking before driving, but told officers at the scene that he was crossing lanes “to avoid bumps in the road”.

He was taken to Hamilton Police Station as a result.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that he participate in DUI Court beginning on May 16 and released him on $1,500 bail until that time.

Anderson was also disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice.
