Man tries to stop officers from entering club

A man tried to stop police from entering a sports club on Boxing Day.

Malik Cann, 34, admitted obstructing a police constable when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that officers tried to enter Southampton Rangers Sports Club after seeing a small disturbance on the premises but Cann kept the entrance gate shut.

Despite police asking to be let in, Cann, from Sandys, kept the gate closed.

Officers eventually got into the club and arrested Cann, who said he was “working security and only trying to help”.

Magistrate Craig Attridge fined Cann, who apologised for his actions, $500 for the offence.
